Please help me restore my dolls hair! Any tips?

First thanks for reading this question!

OK, i have an American Girl Doll; Kirsten.

I have had this doll for 15 years. She is in fantastic condition, besides her hair. When I first bought her, her hair was in soft, shiny braids. Somehow, my little sister got a hold of her when she was 3 and COMPLETELY destroyed her hair. Kirsten's hair as of now is a big, frizzy mess. I bought a special brush for my doll, but it just made it worse. If anyone has some tips on how to restore her hair, PLEASE HELP ME OUT! IT WOULD BE SO APPRECIATED!!!

Thank you so much for your time!!! :)

I have answered this one before so I am going to copy it here for you...

There are a few different treatments out there for your dolls hair. I am going to start with the least invasive and work my way down the list. If you do not get the desired effect you may need to move onto the next step. The last few being the most work and at that point in a point of no return phase. Once you start those they will either work or not and you may end with the same results of needing to re-wig or replace her head.

I do not recommend using human shampoos as the hair is not human hair. The best place to start is by purchasing Synthetic Wig Shampoo and Conditioner at a local wig shop or online.

I have re-habed many a hear of hair on these dolls. There are further treatments you can do at home if these do not work.

There is also a method out there for using "Son of a Gun" protectant on the dolls hair. I have used this method also.

You can try using "braid spray". It is a product available at Walmart in the Ethnic hair section.

Some collectors call one, the Downy Dunk. It involves soaking your dolls hair in Unscented Downy for a time. After rinsing it softens. It is one I do not recommend. In the wig world it is known as "trashing a wig".

In extreme circumstances you may need to steam the wig.

Directions for using all of these products are available to collectors and parents at www.AGPlaythings.com in it's users forum.

In future, the best thing you can do is help her maintain her hair by helping her brush and spray the hair down wet at least bi-weekly, depending on how much your daughter plays with her. Be sure to use a wire wig brush. Also, purchase a metal comb to use in their hair for detangeling. It works better then the wig brush. I also use a soft tooth brush to smooth the hair in little weird spots.

If none of these things help you have two options. Send in your doll and have them replace the head with a new one for about $40. You may not want to do this with your childhood doll. Newer heads are different and the body colour may not match.

OR you can learn how to do a simple re-wig on her. That will run you far less and you can find a very similar wig. If you need step by step help please come see us at http://www.agplaythings.proboards105.com

You might need to send her to the doll hospital. Go to the American Girl page for the info.

number one her hair is ruined....it is made out of saran, plastic, so once it is frizzy that is it. write to the American doll company and tell them your story, they may just re wig her for you. you will pay postage to and from and maybe even for the wig, but well worth it to keep her original....have fun.....
